Capital grants of up to £150,000 available from The London Marathon Charitable Trust to help get people active

About the Trust The London Marathon Charitable Trust was founded in 1981, alongside the London Marathon, to encourage more people to become active. The Trust provides grants of £5,000 to £150,000 towards capital projects that inspire people to lead a more active lifestyle and increase the number of people regularly taking part in sports and physical activities. Since 1981 the Trust has awarded in excess of £57 million to more than 1,000 projects supporting its mission of providing high–quality, accessible and affordable facilities for sport and physical activity.The Trust is able to distribute grants in all areas where London Marathon Events Limited organises mass participation events: the 32 London boroughs and the City of London, Surrey, South Northamptonshire and Aylesbury Vale.

What they support    

The Trust actively seeks to support projects that help get people of all ages off the couch and trying out a wide range of sports and physical activities from archery to judo, from korfball to zumba.  The Trust is particularly interested in hearing from projects working with: • Individuals who are currently physically inactive or who have low levels of activity. • Groups that are currently physically inactive or who have low levels of activity. • Children and young people outside of school hours.

The Trust welcomes projects that encourage participation in physical activities by a wide variety of audiences, and particularly those who are more likely to be inactive such as isolated individuals, people encountering health issues, people with disabilities and BAMER groups.   

Eligible organisations include: • Sports Clubs • Local Authorities • Charities using sport and recreation as part of their social outcomes programmes • Youth Clubs • Community Groups • Parish Councils • Multi–Sports Clubs • Other Voluntary Organisations

How much can you apply for ?                    

The Trust currently has two open Capital Grants Programmes:

The Small Capital Grants Programme for grants of £5,000 to £19,999 has a simple one–stage online application process and applicants will be informed of the Trustees’ decision within 16 weeks of submitting an application.

The Major Capital Grants Programme for grants of £20,000 to £150,000 has a two–stage online application process with successful applicants invited to submit a detailed Stage 2 application if their Stage 1 proposals meet the programme criteria. 

The Trust has a rolling application process and is keen to receive applications before its next deadline for Small and Major Capital Grants of 1pm on 19th April 2016. Application deadlines occur every 3 months and the subsequent deadlines for submission in 2016 are mid–July and Mid–October (specific dates will be confirmed closer to the time).
