Irish in Britain congratulate Charlie Flanagan the new Minister for Foreign Affairs.

We welcome his appointment and that of Jimmy Deenihan the new Minister for the Diaspora; while thanking former Foreign Minister Eamon Gilmore for his hard work and support over the years.

While the appointment of a diaspora specific will mean a changed relationship for many Irish across Britain and the Foreign Minister there will continue to be a strong link between his Department and the Irish community globally.

Jennie McShannon, CEO of Irish in Britain welcomes his appointment and to building a healthy relationship with him for the benefit of all Irish in Britain. As a former Fine Gael Party Chairman, and former Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Minister Flanagan will have a breath of experience to bring to the Cabinet table on matters that are vital for Irish in Britain.
