The Celtic and Irish Cultural Society (C.I.C.S) finished 2016 with fantastic news having received the Crawley Observer Community Award. The award recognised the society’s contribution in promoting Celtic and Irish culture in the town.
Chairman of the society, John Nolan, collected the award with a warming cheer from the audience.
While calling John to the stage, pantomime director Paul Hendy said C.I.C.S were chosen for “their ongoing work in promoting Irish culture to Crawley and the broader south east of Britain in a way the whole population of the area can be part of”.
Cllr Peter Lamb who handed over the award asked the John what motivates him in his role, the Chairman replied:
“We are absolutely honoured to receive this award. Crawley has a great Multi–Cultural mix to it and it’s against this backdrop Celtic and Irish Cultural Society events such as the Crawley Irish Festival and Crawley Fleadh thrive,
“Alot of our attendees are from a cross section of the communities of Crawley as well as being Irish and we are delighted to be part of that success in promoting all that’s good about our culture.”
Crawley Fleadh is a two–month programme where Crawley’s broad public are targeted with an array of programmes that are typically Irish. These include education programmes, sports coaching in schools, Irish language for adults, music & dance workshops and free public entertainment.
