New Report on Charitable Fraud
The Charity Commission has published a new report on insider fraud in charities, finding that an absence of appropriate controls was the primary enabling factor in most cases studied. The most common reason given for fraud occurring was “excessive trust or responsibility placed on one individual”. Read the report to find out how to watch for fraud and protect your organisation.
New Report on CSR, Corporate Giving and Employee Fundraising
The Good Exchange recently released a report titled “Philanthropic Corporate Social Responsibility, Organisational and Employee Fundraising: How does it really work in the UK?”, drawing from polling data on more than 200 CSR managers. The report found that CSR managers were struggling under the administrative burden of researching the impact of local charities, and the majority of CSR funding is going towards national charities as a result.

Zurich Community Trust
The Zurich Community Trust funds projects that provide support to carers, special needs children, older people, people with disabilities, homeless people and more. They are open to applications from projects in and near Birmingham, Fareham, Farnborough, Gloucestershire, Glasgow, Leeds, and Swindon. The deadline to apply for the next round of funding is 31 May.
Good Help
The Good Help Award is open to any organisation that provides “good help” by supporting people to feel hopeful, identify their own purpose and confidently take action. They provide a £15,000 grant to one award winner and £5,000 to two runners–up. The deadline to apply for the award is 18 May.
Thomas Wall Trust
The trust provides grants of up to £1,000 to small charities that serve the educational and social needs of the community. The next deadline to apply for funding is 31 May.
Veolia Environmental Trust
The trust provides grants to community groups to improve their local environement. Projects must be located near a Veolia site to be eligible. The next deadline to apply for funding is 31 May.
Women First Innovation Fund
Using money received from the Tampon Tax Fund, the Women First Innovation Fund provides seed funding to community groups with new projects that help break down barriers and improve confidence and skills for women seeking employment. The average grant size is £5,000–£10,000 and the deadline to receive applications is 11 May.
Warburtons
Warburtons provides community grants of up to £250 to organisations across the UK and project grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 to projects located within 15 miles of a bakery or depot site. They fund projects that focus on health, financial stability, joblessness, health education, career aspiration, and employable skills. The deadline to apply for their next round of community grants is 15 May.
AB Charitable Trust
AB Charitable Trust provides grants to charities that combat abuse and violations of human rights and support the disadvantaged by fostering community action. ABCT can provide funding for core costs and typically support organisations with an annual income between £150,000 and £1.5m. Grants typically range from £10,000 – 20,000. The deadline for the next round of grant funding is 18 May.
Lloyd’s Bank Foundation
The foundation provides grants from £10,000 to £25,000 per year for two to three years with the possibility of continuation up to six years in total. They can cover core costs and can fund any charitable organisation with an income between £25,000 and £1m that works with disadvantaged people aged 17 and over who are facing multiple disadvantage through one of their specified transition points. Applications are open until 18 May.
