#KnowYourScore social media campaign

Green Hearts were delighted to partner with the Irish Film Festival London for the UK premiere of Poc na nGael; the story of hurling’s influence on the development of ice hockey in Canada as told by Ger Loughnane.

As well as doing free blood pressure screenings on the day of the premiere, in the week leading up to it we promoted blood pressure awareness with our #knowyourscore social media campaign.

We were thrilled to have support from our friends both here in Britain and in Ireland, receiving #knowyourscore messages from the Ambassador O’Neill, London GAA star Liam Gavaghan, two–time Grand National winner Bobby Burke, Galway goalie Rory Lavelle, Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Seamus Banim, past All–Ireland hurling winner Tony Kennedy, the London Rose Grainne Hawkes, MP Karin Smyth and Fr. Pat Donnellon Galway GAA Chaplain.

In good timing, on November 29 UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) revealed that hurling and camogie have been inscribed in 2018 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, stating that

“Hurling is considered as an intrinsic part of Irish culture and plays a central role in promoting health and wellbeing, inclusiveness and team spirit”

We look forward to developing our relationship with the GAA and broader community both here and in Ireland whilst continuing to promote health awareness among the Irish diaspora.
