Irish in Britain is launched a volunteer opportunities hub on 14 December to coincide with national Local Charities Day.

Local Charities Day is all about encouraging people to pledge their time as a volunteer to help support the invaluable work carried out by local charities across Britain.

Volunteering is a vital asset to many organisations and Irish in Britain are proud of the strong volunteering culture that so many of our members have cultivated over the years.

As a national organisation we are able to further promote our members tremendous work and encourage volunteer engagement within the community. Our volunteer hub will feature available opportunities from our member organisations which will be promoted on social media and in our Newsletter.

Volunteering not only helps support the work of charity organisations, it can be just as beneficial to the volunteer. It’s a great way to learn new skills, be part of a community and just get out and about to meet people.

In June of this year, Irish in Britain hosted its inaugural Volunteer Awards to celebrate the great contribution of volunteers to the Irish community. Among the awards presented were Outstanding Individual Volunteer, Outstanding Group and Outstanding Trustee.

Brian Heffernan, winner of the Outstanding Individual Award said “The awards recognise the selfless kind acts of love towards one another. We overcome all transgressions when we display these qualities.”

People can find out more about the volunteering opportunities available by visiting our website and to advertise your volunteer opportunities on the hub contact Marie Dillon, Irish in Britain’s Health and Wellbing Development Officer, on 07795677475 or email her on health@irishinbritain.org
