Information for Survivors
New guidelines were issued by Caranua in June 2014 entitled ‘Applying for services from the UK’. These relate to the fund available for people who are survivors of abuse in the industrial schools of Ireland and who are now living in the UK as they may be eligible to obtain some support services for health, housing and educational needs. To be eligible survivors must have previously been awarded compensation through the Redress or the courts. These new guidelines are available to download from www.caranua.ie or by contacting their office in Dublin. Freephone from UK landlines: 0808 234 1303
There is a website is for Survivors of institutional abuse in Ireland, who are now living in Britain. It is part of a wider project supporting a network of survivor groups and services, supporting people wishing to form survivor’s support groups, publicising events, providing information useful for isolated survivors or their families not already linked in, and raising awareness more generally. The site is administered by Irish in Britain. Linking, supporting, connecting survivors www.irishsurvivorsinbritain.org
