The Irish Times has confirmed that Irish citizens will soon be able to renew their passports online from anywhere in the world under a new service to be introduced shortly.
The move towards digital processing of applications is due in large part to the recent surge in applications for passports from people living outside of Ireland.
Minister Joe McHugh has said that there were almost 45,000 applications in one week, post Brexit. He said the level of overall demand this year was very high, with an 11 per cent rise in the number of applications compared to the same period last year.
