This year London sees a St Brigid’s Day Festival/Lá Fhéile Bríde, which originated from the Irish Embassy in London last year, turning into three days of celebration. This annual celebration of Irish Women now also takes place across the world at various Irish embassies, consulates and other Irish venues.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year we will again welcome guests to the Embassy for an evening of celebration of the enormous talent & creativity of Irish women.

We will be hosting a variety of talks, performances and panel discussions on the evening of 1st February to showcase trailblazing Irish women who are making their mark in diverse fields such as music, comedy, poetry, literature, theatre, business and entrepreneurship, and politics.

A dazzling array of talent will be on display in various spaces throughout our historic building with six sessions on the following themes: modern Literature, business & Entrepreneurship, an Exploration of Seamus Heaney’s ‘Hard–Pressed Brigid’ with Marie & Catherine Heaney, the Legend of Grace O’Malley with Anne Chambers and Joan Mulloy, theatre, 2019: Challenges & Change.

We are delighted that Áine Lawlor, Róisín Ingle, Amy Huberman, Denise Gough, Liz Nugent, Senator Lynn Ruane, Belinda McKeon, and Marie and Catherine Heaney will be joining us, with many more outstanding women participating.

Intimate Performances from Powerful Irish Women

Join us in welcoming spring with a celebration of powerful Irish female talent as part of the Irish Embassy’s St Brigid’s day festival.

This night of musical and spoken word performances is the perfect way to wave goodbye to winter and look forward to the year ahead with some of the most creative and talented female performers Ireland has to offer.

Irish Film London St Brigid’s Festival events

Irish Mother and Baby screenings
Monday 28 Jan – Sunday 3 Feb, various venues
We will start off with a city–wide collaboration, drawing various cinemas together to mark the week leading up to St. Brigid’s Day, by scheduling Irish films during their Mother and Baby screenings. 

These sessions are designed for mothers and babies, who are made to feel comfortable to breastfeed or to soothe their babies as necessary. Participating venues include Castle Cinema, Hackney and Olympic Cinema, Barnes.

Irish Women in Film & TV Panel Discussion + Networking reception

Sunday 3 Feb Regent St Cinema, 3.45pm

Bringing together the monumental forces of the UK & Ireland’s major networks for women in Film & Television, we will celebrate some of Ireland’s most successful female professionals both behind and in front of the camera. Join us at our cinematic home, and the birthplace of British cinema, Regent Street Cinema, for a Sunday afternoon fireside chat with a fascinating and fabulous panel of women from both networks, including Dr. Susan Liddy and Anne Morrison. 

They will be joined by actress Eileen O’Higgins (Brooklyn, Mary Queen of Scots) and film, TV & new media producer Sienna Beckman.

Katie UK Premiere Screening
Sunday 3 Feb Regent St Cinema, 6pm

Finally, sit back and enjoy the UK Premiere screening of Katie, the much anticipated film about the greatest female boxer of all time, Katie Taylor.

The festival is “the perfect way to wave goodbye to winter and look forward to the year ahead with some of the most creative and talented female performers Ireland has to offer.”

Comedy Night in Celebration of St Brigid’s Day

In honour of St. Brigid’s Day, we feature a unique all–female line up of hilarious comedians. Leading the posse as MC will be the boisterous and hysterically funny Irish comic Anna Clifford.
