This year the Embassy will host its own event on 30 January and is collaborating with friends and partners in the London Irish Centre, Irish Cultural Centre, and Irish Film London.
Irish Cultural Centre
To celebrate St Brigid’s Day the Irish Cultural Centre present some of the UK & Ireland’s finest female traditional musicians and vocalists. The London Lasses and the Friel Sisters will be joined by special guests Mairéad Ni Mhoanaigh and Nia Byrne for an evening for craic agus ceol!

Welcoming spring with a celebration of powerful Irish female talent as part of the Irish Embassy’s St Brigid’s Day Festival presented by Angela Scanlon and Tara Flynn. This night of musical and spoken word performances is the perfect way to wave goodbye to winter and look forward to the year ahead with some of the most creative and talented female performers Ireland has to offer.

Irish Shorts 5pm
A selection of short films originated by Irish women, or with Irish female focused themes at their core. Includes the delightfully funny Who’s The Daddy? from director Mary–Sue Masson (the genius behind the Haribo ‘Kid’s Voices’ ads) and producer: Clancie Brennan (Early Days, winner of the Best Irish Short Film at the Irish Film London Awards).

London premier of A Girl from Mogadishu 7.30pm
A Girl from Mogadishu stars Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder, Birth of a Nation) as Ifrah, Martha Cango Antonio (Black) and Barkhad Abdi (Blade Runner, Captain Phillips) as well as Somali icon, Maryam Mursal with an original score by Nitin Sawhney and featuring Quiet by Milck.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director Mary McGuckian, and special guests, hosted by internationally renowned social activist and founder of Dahlia project, Leyla Hussein OBE.
