World Irish Dance Championships come to London

Back to all news

The World Irish Dance Championships (Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne) this year come to London for the first time.

The 2014 Championships will take place from 13 – 20 April at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel on Edgware Road. Organisers hope to capture the spirit of the London 2012 Olympics and make this the best World Championships ever. Up to 20,000 people are expected to visit London for the event, which will see the world’s best dancers fight for the ultimate title of champion.

Highlights of the week will include the Opening Ceremony on Sunday 13 April and the extravaganza being held at the Hammersmith Apollo on Friday 18 April – ‘Dance Drama – West Coast to West End’. Even Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is lending his support to the event, which he called ‘a fantastic jamboree and a vital boost to London’s economy’.

The event will be open to the general public for a daily admission fee. Further details can be found on the championships website or facebook page.
