The Herbert Protocol is a national scheme introduced by the police and partnership agencies, named after George Herbert, a war veteran of the Normandy landings, who lived with dementia. George Herbert died while 'missing', trying to find his childhood home.
Herbert Protocol forms can be used to capture information describing a person who may go missing, identifying places they may like to visit. Completed forms can be kept safely by family carers ready to be passed on quickly should there be any need to involve police in a search. Information jotted down in advance may be richer than the information that family members can recall under stress.
Join our session with guests from the police Bernadette Gay and Abid Raja to find out more about the Herbert Protocol, how it works and the rationale behind it and to ask any questions you may have.
All our Thoughtful Thursday sessions are free of charge and open to all - please spread the word!
This session may be of interest to all and be especially useful for family, friends, volunteers and staff caring for our community members living with dementia.
To facilitate everyone's comfort, you can join this session with a cup of tea without being visible or heard. We welcome your questions and thoughts. You will be able to type questions in the session and these will be put to our guests by Dr Mary Tiki, Zibiah Loakthar and Aisling McDowell.
