C/O Irish in Britain

The society was set up to explore and rediscover the forgotten Irish history of this small (ex) mining village in Northumberland, North East England.

Research shows that the ‘Ford’ was inhabited by Irish immigrants since at least the 1860s.They came to work in the mining industry in the nearby villages of Dudley and Seghill. The Annitsford United Irish League Club was built in 1899 and the Catholic Church, Saint John the Baptist was built in 1906. Research has uncovered rare records and artefacts that bring back to life the rich history of the Annitsford Irish.
