BIAS was set up in 1978 as a response to the welfare needs of the Irish community, the largest immigrant community in London. These needs have now changed with and we now work with an ageing Irish community. Our aim is to work towards improving the quality of life of the Irish community primarily in Brent.
We operate through our advocacy /advice service, as well as working closely with older people through pensioners groups and our respite day care service. We provide a service that informs our clients on their rights and welfare entitlements in order to enable them to have the best quality of life possible. Through our active pensioners group and respite project we aim to promote the process of active ageing in order to extend the quality of life for all people as they age. We encourage our service users to optimize opportunities for good health and wellbeing and to continue to participate in the community. This is done by providing an environment where service users can continue to take part in social, physical, cultural and religious activities, regardless of ill health, disabilities or retirement.
